Biography: Nikolai GogolNikolai Gogol was a great Russian novelist, dramatist, satirist
and founder of the so-called critical realism in Russian literature, best
known for his novel MJORTVYJE DUSHI I-II, Dead Souls.
After failure as a teacher in the University of St. Petersburg Gogol
started as a writer and lived many years abroad. Later Gogol wrote some of phylosophical essays. He wanted to become a christian teacher in russian orthodox church tradition. He burned sequels for Dead
Souls, just 10 days before he died. Like in the
story The Premature Burial of contemporary writer Edgar
Allan Poe (1809-1849) rumors arise from time to time that Gogol was
buried alive.
